Liana Sakelliou

Liana Sakelliou was born in Athens, Greece, Liana Sakelliou studied English at the University of Athens (B.A.), Edinburgh (Grad Diploma), Essex (M.A.), and The Pennsylvania State University (Ph.D.). She is Professor in English and Creative Writing at the Department of English Language and Literature at The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Her 27 books with poems, scholarly articles, essays, and translations have been widely published in Greece, France, Romania, Spain, and the U.S.A. For her academic and creative-writing activities she received two Fulbright awards, and grants from Princeton University, University of Coimbra, University of Sussex (West Dean), and The British Council. Her poems have appeared in numerous international anthologies, as well as in many journals and magazines and have been translated into eleven languages. Her translations of Emily Dickinson’ s poems have been awarded the Translators’ Circle Prize in 2013. She served as President of the committee for the EUPL (European Prize for Literature) twice, and as Vice President for the committee of the state awards for translation (2015-2017). She is a member of various professional societies including The Hellenic Authors’ Society.
