Hide and seek
While days pass by the edge of the sky
under the ever-turning sun
and the wind howling at the skylight
My throat out of breath
I send messages and I hurry
leaning against the wall before they find me
listening with my palm
every experience I missed
every opportunity I passed over
everything you wished was left unsaid
and, with sweat and fear,
Fingers crossed
Death’s dice
Wouldn’t weigh too heavily on my hands.

Κρυφτό
Οι μέρες ξηλώνουν την άκρη τ’ ουρανού
ο ήλιος συστρέφεται
κι ο άνεμος βογκάει στον φωταγωγό
Πιπιλάω μικρές καραμέλες του λαιμού
στέλνω μηνύματα και τρέχω
Ακουμπάω στον τοίχο πριν με βρουν
με την παλάμη αφουγκράζομαι
όσα δεν έζησα κι επέστρεψαν
όσα προσπέρασα και φύγαν
όσα δεν θέλησες να πεις
κι εγώ ιδρώνοντας
Καρφώνω σε διπλό σταυρό
Ζυγίζοντας στη χούφτα
το ζάρι του θανάτου.

Feeling the code of your words
what do they mean?
raised marks
dots, dashes and spaces
throbbing veins
and twitching eyebrows
From the pale neck
To the chest that dared come out
The dual body that played
and got lost
Dust that flew
before it found
a shady corner for protection.

Διπλό παιχνίδι
Ψηλαφίζω τον κώδικα των λόγων σου
τι να σημαίνουν
τα φουσκωμένα σημαδάκια
κουκκίδες παύλες και κενά
η φλέβα που χτύπησε αριστερά
και το δεξί σου φρύδι
Λευκό χρώμα του λαιμού
στήθος που δέχτηκε να βγει
κορμί διπλό που έπαιξε
και χάθηκε
Σκόνη που πέταξε
προτού βρεθεί
σκιερή γωνιά να την φυλάξει.
The Poet
Anna Afentoulidou is a philologist. She is a holder of a Master’s Degree in Creative Writing (postgraduate studies in Surrealism and in Cypriot literature). She is a poet (Short List of State Poetry Award 2014 of the Ministry of Culture) and a literary critic. She is the author of 6 books and participated in many collective volumes. She has also written many essays and articles in literary magazines, and participated in Greek and international conferences and scientific seminars. She is a member of work groups on educational materials such as the curriculum of Literary Education, reception classes for refugees, special education and differentiated instruction, as well as on actions to prevent addiction in youth.

Η Άννα Αφεντουλίδου είναι φιλόλογος με μεταπτυχιακό τίτλο στη Δημιουργική Γραφή (μεταπτυχιακές σπουδές στον υπερρεαλισμό και την κυπριακή λογοτεχνία). Είναι ποιήτρια (Βραχεία Λίστα Κρατικού Βραβείου Ποίησης 2014 του Υπουργείου Πολιτισμού) και κριτικός λογοτεχνίας. Είναι συγγραφέας 6 ατομικών βιβλίων, έχει συμμετάσχει σε πολλούς συλλογικούς τόμους, είναι συντάκτης πολλών δοκιμίων και άρθρων σε περιοδικά κι εφημερίδες και έχει παρουσία σε ελληνικά, διεθνή συνέδρια και επιστημονικές ημερίδες. Υπήρξε ή/και είναι μέλος ομάδων εργασίας για εκπαιδευτικά υλικά, το πρόγραμμα σπουδών της Λογοτεχνικής εκπαίδευσης, τις τάξεις υποδοχής προσφύγων, την ειδική αγωγή και την διαφοροποιημένη διδασκαλία, καθώς και δράσεων πρόληψης των νέων από τις εξαρτήσεις.
