60 poets from 16 countries at the biggest poetry meeting in Patras

Starting next Thursday the 10th of December the 3rd Patras World Poetry Festival will take place, this time hosting “online” 60 Greek and foreign poets from 16 countries of the world and claims the Aegis of the President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou.

England, France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Poland, Romania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Canada, Australia, India, Bangladesh, Egypt, Cyprus and Greece are the countries representatives that are taking part in the online events of the festival. All events will be broadcasted to the audience live through the digital literarywebsite www.culturebook.gr from the 10th until the 13th of December between the hours of 11:30-14:00 & 19:00-21:30.

The 3rd Patras World Poetry Festival 2020 is being held by the Poetry Foundation “Grafeion Poiiseos”, the literary website Culture Book in cooperation with Region of Western Greece. Supporters of the event are the University of Western Macedonia, the University of Patras, the Open Greek University, the European University of Cyprus, the Greek Library of London, as well as the Local Union of Municipalities Achaia, the Chamber of Achaia, the Patra Port Authority and the Kalavryta Municipality.

During these four-day online event will take part in total 6 poetry meetings and the nomination of the Greek Poetry Awards “Jean Moréas” 2020.

The first three days will be focused on the poems of the Greek poets, whereas on Saturday and Sunday morning the meeting will be dedicated on the foreign participants. Every meeting will form a theme “round table” around which the fellow participants will have the chance to discuss and exchange thoughts in matters that concern their art and the role that poetry plays in our every day life. The subjects that will be discussed are:

  • 1.” The therapeutic performance of poetry in education.”
  • 2.”Integrations and deviations of generations in poetry.”
  • 3.”The role and dynamic of Patras World Poetry Festival.”
  • 4.”National poets and the current effect of their work.”
  • 5.”Influences, intertextuality and plagiarism.”

The nomination of the Greek Poetry Awards “Jean Moréas” 2020 will take place on Saturday 12th of December at 19:00, where the following awards will be given:

  • 1.Award for best Poetry Collection 2019
  • 2.Award for Newcomer Poet 2019
  • 3.Jean Moréas Award
  • 4.Honor Prize Award “Kostis Palamas”
  • 5.Award for the promotion of Greek literature

Patras International Poetry Festival is one of the biggest literature institutions in Greece and has already been differentiated among distinguish Festivals in the world. Its vision is to project Greek literature internationally and to turn the capital of Western Greece into an European literature center. Through its operations it converses with all areas of Greek Studies worldwide and records the contemporary poetry production. Every year it hosts in Patras important names of world literature offering also a rich programme of events.
